Cinemas and Theatres.

I recently started a long term project looking at the architecture of cinemas and theatres both in use and those being used for new (or no) purposes.  These first pictures are of the Odeon in York, an art deco design. It was opened in 1937 but closed briefly in 2006 opening again in 2009 as part of the Reel Cinemas chain. In 2017 it was purchased by Everyman Cinemas and now has four screens each with sofa seating. It is a grade 2 listed building.

Mow Cop is a village on the border of Staffordshire and Cheshire. The most dominant feature of the village is the castle, a folly of  a ruined castle which sits at the summit of the ridge.  It was built in 1754. The village is also known as the birthplace of Primitive Methodism, which grew from open air prayer meetings. On 31st May 1807 a 14 hour camp meeting was held which led to the founding of the Primitive Methodist Church in 1810. These meetings became a regular feature at Mow Cop.
